Notícia del High Education Funding Council of England (HEFCE) del 6 de desembre de 2006
HEFCE will allocate £60 million a year of research grant to support higher education institutions (HEIs) in undertaking research with business and industry, it was announced today (6 December 2006).
HEFCE Chief Executive, Professor David Eastwood, said:
‘Research by HEIs that meets the needs of business and industry is creating wealth and highly skilled jobs, and promoting social and economic regeneration. We are strongly committed to supporting such research, in addition to ‘blue skies’ research which is fundamental to future innovation. This new element of HEFCE funding will provide the platforms and incentives that HEIs need to seek commissions from the users of research for activities which are both high quality and directly responsive to their needs.’
From the academic year 2007-08, £60 million of HEFCE’s research funding will be allocated to HEIs according to how much research income they have received from business and industry. This information is already collected by the Higher Education Statistics Agency. The funding will come from within the increased resources already allocated to HEFCE for that year in government spending plans.
Allocations to individual HEIs will be announced with HEFCE’s overall grant allocations for 2007-08 at the end of February 2007, and will form part of the block grant for research.
